Surprising Ways In Which The Holiday Season Affects Your Skin

Have you ever noticed how your skin gets noticeably worse once the cold winter months approach? And it gets especially bad around the holidays? Well, know that you are not alone, because festive breakouts are a thing.

‘Tis the season of bad skin, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a way to prevent breakouts from lurking in your Christmas selfies. So if you want to learn more about how the holiday season affects your skin, and how to combat festive breakouts, then keep on reading.

Why do I break out around the holidays?

It’s pretty annoying, isn’t it? The one time of the year when you want to look your best because you are meeting up with all of your friends and family members, your skin decides to freak out and give you the breakout of a lifetime. But have you ever wondered why that is the case?

The answer is pretty straightforward. It’s because most of us change our lifestyle habits (at least by a little bit) once December arrives. The food gets heavier, stress starts to accumulate, and all of those drinks you consumed at the office Christmas party will take a toll on the way your skin looks as well.

In addition to that, the long and cold nights make it so tempting to skip our skincare routine. Considering all of that, how wouldn’t our skin start to freak out? The stress alone that the holiday season brings is enough for the pimples to start popping up out of nowhere.

How to combat the festive breakout

Let’s make it clear, no one expects you to not indulge in festive activities just to get out of them with clear skin. Go live a little. One or two pimples won’t ruin your holidays. However, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t take some precautions to keep your skin in check.

The one tip that we can give you regarding lifestyle changes is to simply try your best. Enjoy your favorite winter meals, but make sure that you also eat some fresh greens in between. In addition to that, also make sure that you are drinking enough water and that you stay hydrated. It’s normal to indulge in certain foods and drinks during this time of the year, and you shouldn’t feel bad about it.

Another tip is that you shouldn’t slack on your skincare routine. I know, cleaning your face and applying moisturizer while you’re tipsy is the worst! However, at least make it a priority to never go to bed while your makeup is still on. If you can, also consider adding a vitamin A derivative into your skincare routine. This will help keep the breakouts under control.

But even if you do end up with a few pimples on your face, just before you have to attend that office holiday party, know that there is no reason to feel bad about it. We’re all humans, and acne comes and goes. Breakouts shouldn’t keep us from enjoying the company of our friends and family. So just put on some concealer for your new friend, and go out and enjoy the party!
