Bella Hadid Opened Up About Why She Decided To Stop Drinking For Good
Bella Hadid seems like one of those people who has everything together. She is considered to be the most beautiful (and symmetrical) woman alive. Her career is thriving, and she has also never been in any major scandals. But, the supermodel is also incredibly open about her struggles with anxiety and depression, and that not everything in her life is as perfect as it may seem.
The 26-year-old model recently revealed that she has stopped drinking and that the reason behind that is her mental health. While she does have a glass of champagne from time to time, the supermodel stays away from hard liquor at all times. Hadid was arrested for a DUI when she was 17, according to E! News, and it seems like her relationship with alcohol has always been tough.
Why Bella made that decision
In a recent interview with InStyle, the supermodel said she cut out hard liquor in an attempt to cut back on her alcohol consumption. Bella said:
“Moderation is everything for me. While I rarely get ‘drunk’ anymore, I’ve completely stopped drinking hard alcohol… I have learned what my body can and can’t handle. I’m a ‘glass of Champagne and head home’ kind of girl.”
She didn’t always know how to control her consumption, and even once revealed that she would cancel night outs because she wasn’t sure she could control herself. “I have done my fair share of drinking,” Bella said. “I loved alcohol and it got to the point where even I started to, you know, cancel nights out that I felt like I wouldn’t be able to control myself.”
Hadid also revealed that she temporarily quit all alcohol from late 2020 to mid-2021. But due to her busy and glamorous lifestyle, cutting off all alcohol wasn’t as attainable as the model believed it would be. Bella said:
“With a life that is constantly pushing a social regime, along with working 13 hour days, every single day, I knew this wasn’t a sustainable life for me.”
Alcohol, anxiety, and depression
Alcohol has a particularly fatal effect on the psyche if consumed frequently. As studies show, this not only damages the organs but also the central nervous system. While small amounts of alcohol can often have a relaxing effect and create artificial feelings of happiness, the positive mood often turns into aggression and irritability with increasing alcohol consumption.
So there’s a reason why Bella Hadid has been feeling better since she stopped drinking. She also revealed that is not difficult for her to do without. “I don’t have that need anymore. Because I know exactly how it affects me. I wake up at three o’clock in the morning. I have terrible fears. And my thoughts revolve around something I did or said five years ago.
“Stress, for which a few drinks are not worth it.”
