Rewarding And Attainable New Year’s Resolutions To Kickstart Your Health Journey

2023 is already here and kicking, but who says that it’s too late to add a few new resolutions to your list? My number one goal, not only in 2023, but generally in life, is to be the healthiest version of myself. Health is wealth, and it’s definitely not something that I take for granted. However, I also don’t believe in drastic lifestyle changes from one day to the next. These changes have to be small, attainable, and something that is easy to follow. Even on those days when you don’t have any motivation at all. So if you need some rewarding and attainable New Year’s resolutions to kickstart your health journey, here’s my list.

Stop drinking sodas

Please, just stop. I know how tempting it is, however, they’re just not worth it. They are bad for your health, your teeth, and bones. Even diet sodas aren’t a better alternative. They don’t add any hydration to your body, and they can’t replace your recommended water intake.

But there is an alternative — sparking water. If you’ve ever been to Europe, you know how obsessed these people are with sparkling water. Unlike sodas, sparkling water does add hydration to your body, and it’s also naturally rich in different minerals. To add a little flavor, you can infuse it with  fruits such as lemons or strawberries.

Get your steps in

I’ve never been a fan of working out. I know — I’m not alone in this. But I’m aware of how important it is to move your body regularly. So instead of going to a pilates class or hitting the gym, I decided to start slow and just increase my daily number of steps.

I started with a goal of 10.000 steps a day, however, that quickly increased to 15.000. In my opinion, people underestimate the power of a good walk. It helps you get your head in the right place, and also stretches out your muscles.

Intermittent fasting

I don’t believe in traditional dieting. I always hated to restrict or count my calories, and I don’t want to ever obsess over what I can and what I can’t eat. However, by the beginning of 2022 I still wanted to drop a few pounds.

Quarantine weight is real, and it took me a while to get rid of mine. But the one thing that helped me lose those last few pounds of my banana bread belly was intermittent fasting.

There are many ways to do it, but the one that I did was fast for 16 hours and eat during those remaining 8 hours. As I was never a breakfast person, this wasn’t too hard for me at all. However, I did have to give up sugar and cream in my morning coffee.

Prioritize your sleep

Did you know that recent studies have shown that women need more sleep than men? The average 7-8 hours of sleep per day doesn’t apply to women. In fact, ideally, we should get between 8 and 10 hours of sleep every night to be at our best. Inadequate sleep in women is linked to heart disease and type two diabetes.
