Hailey Bieber Reveals Her 2-Step Method For “Glazed Brownie” Lips

Another day, another Hailey Bieber “glazed donut” beauty trend. After her glazed donut skin and nails, the ‘Rhode Beauty’ owner also made headlines for her new “glazed brownie” lip look. She shared the products that she uses on TikTok, and the internet went crazy right away. But it turns out that her go-to fall lip combo is one that many women were wearing back in the 90s. 

What is the fuss all about?

In the TikTok video she shared, Hailey revealed her two-step lip routine that she loves to wear during the fall season. The look includes a brown-toned lip liner, by the brand Charlotte Tilbury, and a lip treatment by her own brand, Rhode Skin. Hailey captioned the video: “ready for all the fall things including brownie glazed lips”. But not long after the video was posted, users started accusing Bieber of cultural appropriation.

While Hailey never claimed that she invented this specific makeup look, internet users weren’t happy about the fact that she didn’t mention that the look was worn by women of color for decades. One comment said: “90’s LATINA LIPS love that you took inspiration from them,” as another user wrote, “my mommy & all latinas ate this look up in the early 2000s”. Hailey never replied to the accusations, however, it seems as if the internet calmed down after it was noted that this was *the* lip-look of the 90s. Every woman was wearing it, no matter their skin color or ethnicity.

Now, let me be clear. This look is nothing new or innovative. The only reason why it blew up is that it was posted by Hailey Bieber under the hashtag “glazed”. Dark lipliners combined with lip gloss have been worn for almost three decades, and there is no denying that this look was, in fact, popularized by Latinas. Just Google any look from JLo back in the 90s or early 2000s and you will see that she wore this exact lip combination. And if you follow her on Instagram, you will notice that she still does!I won’t say that the backlash was well deserved. However, those #glazed trends are definitely getting out of hand. As I said, at no moment did Hailey claim that any of these trends were invented by her. Instead, she just popularized them. That is not surprising, considering how big her audience is. However, it sure would have been nice if she had mentioned where she got her inspiration from. Give credit where credit is due and rock any lip combination you want this fall/winter season
