What is Proactive Prevention and What Does It Mean in the Beauty World?

A few years ago, many experts and dermatologists noticed women in their early 20s embracing beauty products and anti-aging potions marketed for their mothers. Today, most of these women are now entering their late 30s, yet they are not experiencing typical signs of aging, including crow’s feet and frown lines. Many experts believe that the reason is due to proactive prevention or a process of jumpstarting your anti-aging routine at an early age to slow down signs of aging. To give you a better view, here are examples of proactive prevention in the beauty industry.

What is Proactive Prevention?

Proactive prevention refers to the practice of focusing on the “pre-incident indicators” to help prevent a problem before it manifests or shows up. As such, the main goal of proactive prevention is to slow down or stop an incident or problem before it causes damage.

What Does It Mean in the Beauty World?

Although millennials were the first to practice proactive prevention, the trend is now expanding to other generations. In fact, many experts provide proactive skincare tips about aging to boost your skin’s health before it breaks down. Additionally, they encourage people to take a proactive approach to their skincare routine now instead of waiting for visible signs of aging. The reason is that proactive prevention can help your skin age gracefully.

Examples of Proactive Prevention in the Beauty Industry

1. Applying Sunscreen

As you know, the UV rays emitted by the sun are a primary cause of damaged skin. Aside from that, it also accelerates your skin’s aging process, resulting in age spots, blotches, and wrinkles. Unfortunately, most moisturizers with SPF are not enough. You can be proactive with your skincare routine by using sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.

In general, experts recommend applying sunscreen 10 minutes before going out. You also need to reapply it if you’ve perspired or spent some time in the water.

2. Anti-Aging Mini-treatments

Anti-aging mini-treatments are among the best examples of proactive prevention in the beauty industry. In the past decades, people would wait to reach a certain age before they would consider anti-aging treatments. Today, you can include anti-aging mini-treatments in your beauty regimen even if you’re young as a proactive approach. In fact, you can try gentle treatments, such as resurfacing lasers or skin-tightening radio frequency, to keep youthful skin as you grow old.
