Skincare Habits You Have To Leave Behind In 2022

Yup, it’s that time of the year again. Everyone is making New Year’s resolutions, and everyone is trying to better their lives. So why not just jump on the bandwagon?

While many believe that New Year’s resolutions are cheese, I’ll gladly take anything that gives me a drop of motivation to take better care of myself.

For me, 2022 has been the year where I have learned the most about my skin. During 2020 and 2021 I went completely wild with trying out all of the trending skincare products on the market, not even considering what my skin needed.

But 2022 has been a lot different. Instead of trying to burn my face down with harsh chemical peelings and strong active ingredients, I started being a lot more gentle with my skin. One year later, I can confidently say that it paid off.

So if you are looking for ways to better your skincare routine in 2023, here are some skincare habits that you should leave behind once the clock strikes midnight.

Constantly trying out new products

While trying out new products from time to time can be a fun thing to do, you shouldn’t constantly be adding new products into your routine.

Your skin needs time to adapt to a new product, and a new product also needs some time to work its magic. Give it at least a couple of months before you decide if it’s the right one for you.

Constantly trying out new things, that might not even work for your skin type, could also harm your skin barrier. Keep things simple, and never introduce more than one product at a time into your routine.

Cheating on your SPF

Do you know how sometimes when it’s cold and cloudy outside, your SPF 30 BB cream seems to be more than enough sun protection for that day?

Well, the truth is that we shouldn’t even consider makeup to be protecting us from UVA and UVB rays in any way. No matter what your foundation, skin tint, CC, or BB cream says — it can’t replace your sunscreen.

That’s because we don’t use enough foundation or BB cream to give us the necessary protection. A lot of people already don’t apply enough sunscreen. Remember that you need at least a nickel-sized amount for only your face.

Falling into trends

Remember when everyone thought that vitamin C was the holy grail product of every skincare routine? I can’t lie, at one point I started to believe that as well. That was until I finished my vitamin C serum, and waited for a couple of weeks before buying a new one.

Do you know why my opinion changed? Because my skin didn’t. It was the same as it was when I was using vitamin C. That’s because I already used different antioxidants in my skincare routine, and there was no need for a separate vitamin C serum.

While vitamin C might be an amazing product for you, I know with certainty that it made no difference in the appearance of my skin. I just saw the hype on social media and wanted to believe that my money spent on that serum wasn’t wasted.
